David Hockney has been called "Britain`s greatest living artist" but he has stated that this has no meaning to him. The truth is that this painter, draughtsman, printmaker, stage designer and photographer is considered to be one of the pioneers of the British Pop Art movement from the `60`s and certainly remains one of the most highly respected artists of his generation.
His swimming-pool-themed work has become iconic in paintings, as well as photocollages etc.
Ο David Hockney έχει χαρακτηριστεί "ο σπουδαιότερος εν ζωή Βρετανός καλλιτέχνης", αλλά ο ίδιος έχει δηλώσει ότι αυτό δεν έχει νόημα γι`αυτόν. Η αλήθεια είναι ότι αυτός ο ζωγράφος, χαράκτης, σκηνογράφος και φωτογράφος θεωρείται ένας από τους πρωτοπόρους του κινήματος της Pop Art στη Βρετανία πίσω στη δεκαετία του `60 και σίγουρα παραμένει ένας από τους πλέον αξιοσέβαστους καλλιτέχνες της γενιάς του.
Η δουλειά του με θεματολογία τις πισίνες έχει γίνει εμβληματική τόσο σε πίνακες, όσο και σε φωτομοντάζ κλπ.
